Summer Savings Tips 06/30/2021
This year’s summer festivities should be a little less inconvenient. The country is making its return to normalcy, and with that, vacations and fun are at your fingertips. So, as you start to gear up for some fun in the sun, take a moment and think about some ways you can possibly save a penny or two. Yes, you’ve probably seen more of your home than you’d like, but there are still some things you can do to help keep your wallet less strapped.
Grill
One of the easiest things you can do is take your meals outside. Grills are a cheap and fun way to prep dinners for the family, and they tend to taste amazing. Think of it this way: Cooking on the grill saves you from using extra electricity or gas depending on the design of your grill. This will also keep the interior of your house cooler which means your air conditioner won’t be pumping nearly as much or as hard.
Replace your air conditioning filters
This one is easy to overlook. Your air conditioning filters need to be replaced regularly. Their function necessarily requires them to get filled with gunk and crud, making it harder for air to flow through your home. This air restriction causes your air conditioner to work double-time trying to keep your house cool, which in turn drives up your electricity costs. Replacing those filters will help keep those costs down during those hot months.
Cut back on the TV
Summer tends to bring with it extended light. What does this mean? Well, it means you can take advantage of the extra daytime and enjoy being outside a little more. The benefits are twofold. One, you’ll cut back on electricity use from lights and your television. Two, you’ll do your body some good by treating it to some healthy physical activity. Let’s be real, COVID has done many things including cause some weight gain.
