Press Release
April 16, 2021

Direct Federal Credit Union, of Needham, announced its 2021 Scholarship Program, offered to this year’s graduating class. The program will offer almost $30,000 in financial assistance to high school seniors, through three different scholarships.

Direct Federal will partner with area high schools and organizations to offer five $1,000 Diversity and Inclusion Champion Scholarships. Direct Federal made a pledge in 2020 to focus on denouncing racism and promoting social justice within its sphere of influence.  The Diversity Champion Scholarship will recognize high school seniors who have led or supported an effort in making their school and/or their community inclusive. Partner schools and organizations include Franklin High School, Dedham High School, Framingham High School, Everett High School, and the Waltham Boys and Girls Club.

To help students and families in the community who need financial assistance due to the pandemic, Direct Federal will offer (20) $1,000 Pandemic Relief Scholarships. This scholarship is available to any graduating senior that attends high school in any town in Norfolk or Middlesex County, MA. Visit Direct.com/PandemicReliefScholarship to learn more and to apply.

Finally, Direct Federal members and their children qualify for the $12,000 David Johnson Leadership Scholarship. In honor of Direct Federal Credit Union Board Member, former Chairman and Vice-Chairman, David Johnson and his 35 years of service, this annual scholarship recognizes, rewards, and provides financial assistance to a deserving student who has demonstrated one of David’s strongest qualities, leadership. This scholarship is a $3,000/per year scholarship up to four years and with it comes a guaranteed internship for three summers. Members and their children can visit Direct.com/DavidJohnsonScholarship to learn more and to apply.

“The graduating class of 2021 has shown resilience and perseverance throughout this past year. I cannot think of a class better prepared to go out and change the world. We are honored to recognize and celebrate all of their hard work and achievements with our 2021 Scholarship Program,” said Joe Walsh, President and CEO of Direct Federal Credit Union.
