Direct Federal Credit Union CEO, Joe Walsh, awarded 2019 CEO of the Year Award 10/18/2019
Direct Federal Credit Union announced today that President and CEO, Joe Walsh, was named the “CEO of the Year” by regional industry organization, Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA).
CCUA represents credit unions in Delaware, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island, empowering them, individually and collectively, to provide consumers with outstanding financial services. The organization presented their annual “Awards of Excellence” at their 2019 Annual Meeting on October 17, 2019.
Walsh has worked for Direct Federal for nearly 30 years and has been President and CEO since 2014. In his time as CEO, the single branch, digitally focused credit union has experienced unprecedented growth, at an annual average of 14.6% for the past four years. In addition to the impressive growth, Walsh has been committed to developing the culture at Direct to be one of “Achievement Based Collaboration.” Under his direction, the credit union introduced two award-winning culture programs—Direct University and The Culture Crew, and most recently launched a career development program in which every employee has the option to participate.
Walsh is dedicated to continuous improvement and creating efficiencies that better serve Direct Federal employees and members. This year he created Team Lean, a group of employees dedicated to helping and empowering credit union employees embrace the five elements of Lean methodology.
“The board of directors, full leadership team, and employees of Direct congratulate Joe on receiving this prestigious award,” said Don Kelliher, Direct Federal Chairman of the Board. “His exemplary leadership and fervent dedication to our members, employees, the community, and the credit union movement has been inspiring.”
“This award recognizes the dedicated and talented employees of Direct,” commented Walsh. “I am grateful to have the support of and work with a talented team who put our members first each day.
